Two Shows, Two Lessons

Last week was a busy one for us. We had not one, but two shows, each with its own vibe and its own lessons.

The first was our second appearance at the Montreux Jazz Café, hosted at our school for the Grad Trip Association. It turned out to be a special night: the venue even recorded record sales. Everyone had just returned from vacation, and on a Monday night the Jazz Café was the place to be.

Montreux Jazz Café is never an easy stage though. The crowd is demanding, and we quickly learned that if you play sets that are too intellectual or tracks that aren’t instantly recognizable, it’s tough to get people moving. At times it was frustrating because the organizers tried to micromanage us, asking for more commercial music. But moments like these remind us why it’s so important to stay true to who we are as artists.

In the end, it paid off. The last 40 minutes were pure fire. Technically the venue closes at 11, but we kept going right up until the end. The energy was electric: people were dancing around the booth, the vibe was flowing, and it became one of those rare moments where everything clicks. The manager even told us the strong sales that night were thanks, in part, to the good atmosphere we created. That made us proud.

Our second show took us up into the mountains, to the Caprices Festival, where we played on the Red Bull Stage. To be fair, this stage is right by the toilets, not the sexiest setting. But honestly, it turned into something intimate and special. The space was small and tight, but when the music is right, you can transform any room into a groove.

We had a three-hour slot, so each of us got to play for an hour. Niceyboy opened with a deep set, dropping some of his brand-new tracks, Alive and First Light, in front of a crowd. Then Chun Hao and Merz took over, bringing disco, house, and funky vibes into the mix. Despite the unusual location, we held people, connected with them, and created a flow. It was another reminder that magic can happen anywhere, even next to the toilets.

Looking back, these two shows reminded us why we do this. We’ve been pushing hard for a year now, giving everything we’ve got, and what matters most is that we’re still having fun. There will always be micromanaging organizers or unpredictable crowds, but that’s part of the ride. As long as the joy stays alive, we know it will carry us forward to even more beautiful moments.
