Music, Pizza & Community in Bern

Last Saturday, we had the pleasure of returning to a project that is particularly close to our hearts. At the Generation House in Bern, Coolinarik hosted an intergenerational cooking event, bringing together people of different ages and cultural backgrounds around one simple idea: preparing and sharing fresh pizza.

The gathering held a special meaning for us. Last summer, Chun Hao and Niceyboy completed their internship with Coolinarik and had the opportunity to contribute to the development of the association during its early stages. Returning a year later felt less like coming back to an event and more like reconnecting with a community that continues to grow.

Set in the peaceful garden of the Generation House, just steps away from Bern's main station, the atmosphere was relaxed, welcoming, and genuinely communal. While guests cooked, shared meals, and exchanged stories, Chun Hao provided a four-hour vinyl soundtrack that blended naturally into the afternoon.

A special highlight was the spontaneous collaboration with local pianist Nino, who joined the set with over two decades of musical experience. Freely improvising alongside the records, he added a beautiful layer to the atmosphere. It wasn't a concert in the traditional sense, but rather a musical conversation that gently accompanied the event, enriching the space without ever demanding the spotlight.

Sometimes, music doesn't need to be the center of attention. Sometimes its greatest role is simply to create the conditions for people to connect. This afternoon in Bern was a wonderful reminder of exactly that.
